Including the McAuliffe-Shepard Discovery Center in your estate planning helps ensure that the support of fun and engaging STEM education is a part of your legacy.

If you have already named the Discovery Center as a future beneficiary of your will, trust, or other gift, please let us know so we can properly thank you. If you have not already made charitable plans for your estate and would like to discuss your options, we would be happy to provide you and your financial advisors with any information that might assist you with your decisions.

Remembering the Discovery Center in your will or trust

A common and simple way to include the Discovery Center in your estate planning is by making a provision in your will or trust.

This kind of charitable bequest can take the form of a designated dollar amount, a percentage of the estate, or “the residual” (the amount remaining in the estate after all other obligations and payments have been made).

If you are interested in leaving a gift to the McAuliffe-Shepard Discovery Center in your will or trust, please make sure to speak with your attorney. We encourage you to provide this sample language:

“I hereby give and bequeath __________ (dollar amount, or percentage of my estate, or residual of my estate after other bequests) to the McAuliffe-Shepard Discovery Center Corporation, Tax ID: 45-5337441, 2 Institute Drive, Concord, New Hampshire, 03301, for its general purposes.”

Naming the Discovery Center as a beneficiary of your IRA or other retirement funds

Leaving IRAs and other retirement assets to charity is quick and easy! You simply need to notify the custodian of your retirement funds that you want all or part of a particular fund to pass to the designated charity or charities. Please consider naming the McAuliffe-Shepard Discovery Center as a full or partial beneficiary of your retirement fund.

Do you have to take a required minimum distribution from your IRA and want to donate the funds to charity? With a Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD), you can make a tax-free contribution directly from your IRA to an eligible charitable organization. Talk to your financial advisor about how to support organizations like the Discovery Center with a QCD!

Naming the Discovery Center as the end beneficiary of your donor-advised fund

Many individuals are now using donor-advised funds (DAFs) to manage their charitable giving, and it’s important to think about the long-term plans for these funds. Donors can specify to their DAF sponsor how to distribute the assets in their accounts, should there be remaining funds at the end of their lives. Please consider including the Discovery Center as a beneficiary of your DAF!
