In partnership with Portsmouth Symphony Orchestra, we are excited to bring you this unique combination of the sounds of space and the environment of adventure in our Discovery Center atrium and exhibits.
Travel "Out of This World" with the PSO Principal Winds Quintet in an exciting and transformative program that pays homage to space travel and otherworldly themes. The program features "Apollo" by Marc Mellits, an eclectic set of miniatures commissioned by WindSync in 2019 in honor of the 50th anniversary of the Apollo 11 mission of July of 1969.
The concert will also include selections from the soundtrack to Star Wars and from Gustav Holst's "The Planets". PSO Principal Winds is comprised of Aubrie Dionne, flute; Sarah Krebs, oboe; John Ferraro, clarinet; Orlando Pandolfi, horn; and Melissa Grady, bassoon.
Doors open at 5:30pm, and the performance will begin promptly at 6pm. Admission Tickets include access to the Discovery Center exhibit halls as well as the PSO Principal Winds Quintet performance.
Following the performance there will be a showing of “Audio Universe: Tour of the Solar System” in the planetarium theater. Planetarium show admission is limited to 100 tickets. See admission & planetarium show ticket bundle below.
Audio Universe: Tour of the Solar System is a planetarium show, but unlike traditional shows the soundtrack takes the lead role.
All of the objects in space are represented with rich sounds as well as with incredible visuals. The audience can listen to the stars appear and hear the planets orbit around their heads. Audio Universe: Tour of the Solar System is an immersive experience that can be enjoyed irrespective of level of vision.
