Celebrate Christa McAuliffe's Birthday! Come and celebrate Christa’s life Tuesday, September 2, with cake and two screenings of the documentary film “Christa McAuliffe: Reach for the Stars”. Visit our special events page for times. Enjoy this award-winning film that has been called the most complete documentary ever produced on the life of our nation’s first Teacher in Space, Christa McAuliffe. It is the story of a courageous woman and passionate teacher and her lifelong commitment to education. She would have been 60 years old this year. Christa was, and remains, one of NASA’s most visible and beloved astronauts and the hero of the Planetarium that bears her name. |

A New Year in Old Mayan Time The ancient Mayan civilization is famous for having constructed one of the most accurate calendars created by any ancient culture. Join archaeoastronomer R.P. Hale on Friday, August 29 at 7 PM as he explores some of the earliest – and latest – findings about how the ancient Mayans viewed time and mapped the stars. Recommended for ages 8 and up. Children under 13 must be accompanied by an adult. $8 adults, $5 children, $7 students and seniors. Free for Planetarium Members. |

Rocketeers Workshop Ever wondered how rockets actually work? Find out how and build your own at the next Rocketeers Workshop on Saturday, August 30 from 9 AM-12 PM. Join Phil Chouinard, our local rocketman, as he demonstrates how rockets work. Then listen as he explains how we use them to explore new worlds. The Rocketeers workshop is fun for kids ages 8 and up. $25 per person (includes your rocket and related materials). |

Movements in the Heavens Why does the Moon move from west to east? What does it mean for a planet to move in retrograde? Learn how and why the Sun, Moon, and planets appear to move against the background of the stars with Education Director Dave McDonald as your guide. Join us at the Christa McAuliffe Planetarium on Friday, September 5 at 7 PM for our Tonight’s Sky planetarium show, followed at 8:15 PM by Super Stellar Friday’s “Movements in the Heavens”. It will be a fascinating exploration for the entire family to enjoy. Also enjoy a FREE Skywatch with the NH Astronomical Society starting at dusk (weather permitting). |
